Shrewsbury residents have expressed concerns regarding their safety, and the overall appearance of Princess Street, as the open use of drugs and disruptive behaviour continues to occur by the homeless community. Despite continuous pleading on behalf of residents for action to be taken, neither the West Mercia Police Force nor Shropshire Council has implemented any change.
Daniel Kawczynski MP urges that the safety and well-being of his constituency be made a priority and that their complaints be heard.
- According to the Shropshire Council, since November 2022, the number of individuals rough sleeping dropped from 16 to five.
- Daniel commends this improvement but stresses the importance of maintaining safety and comfort for residents.
- He asks that the measures being taken to reduce rough sleeping on Princess Street be conveyed to residents transparently and clearly.
- Daniel urges West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, John Campion, to take comprehensive action at resolving this issue.
Quote from Daniel Kawczynski MP:
βIt is imperative that the complaints of the residents of Princess Street are taken seriously, as the antisocial behaviour continues to affect their day-to-day activities.
βI strongly push for the West Mercia Police Crime Commissioner and Shropshire Council to collaborate to come up with comprehensive solutions to this issue. This should have been addressed earlier, and the complaints of the residents should now be made a priority and respected.β
