I am proud to have grown up in our beautiful town and county. I was educated locally until I was 18 although after completing my degree at Edinburgh University I left to enjoy the bright lights of London in 2000. Here I worked in various roles in financial services, charities and Parliament. The proudest moment of my career was working with others to reform the payday loan and credit broking markets, protecting many thousands of people from abuses in this sector However, like so many Salopians the draw of Shrewsbury has proved too much, and I have settled back into Salopian life with my wife and two sons, and I work as an Adviser for Citizens Advice.
In 2017 I was elected to Shrewsbury Town Council and Shropshire Council, and promised to fight over-development and traffic issues, both of which residents have told me had a major impact on their lives. Since then I have successfully argued at Planning Committees to reduce the density of three major proposed developments (and only one of these to date has been built), plus stopped unpopular proposals for a takeaway in a residential area (Wood Street). I have ensured local traffic engineers altered the sequencing of traffic lights at Chester Street, easing the flow of traffic all the way along the Ellesmere Road into town. I have also secured new vehicle activated signs on the Ellesmere Road to discourage speeding motorists, including one recently outside Greenfields Primary School. This year I have focused on improving our walkways and green spaces, having submitted budget proposals to Shrewsbury Town Council for extra bins, planters and hanging baskets across Bagley. I have also achieved success at Rough Lane near Heath Farm which has been resurfaced so walkers can enjoy it all year long. I have also supported residents’ efforts to deliver essential supplies to residents self-isolating during Covid. If re-elected onto Shrewsbury Town Council I will continue to fight against overdevelopment, improve traffic flows and tackle the issue of speeding, plus improve the green spaces and walkways that we all treasure.
